It was a busy day for Pnoypinay’s intrepid women last Dec. 5, 2009, in the launching of the Yellow Sale at the Manila Polo Club, in Forbes Park, Makati.

“We did very well during our yellow sale at the Manila Polo Club for the 6 hours we were selling!  What truly excites me is the multiplier effect we are creating by selling all of the various products that many buyers purchase in multiples of 6's or 12's or sometimes even 20's!  Picture all of these being given away to others, and these others going around wearing yellow Noy Mar paraphernalia.  Sooner rather than later we will have a sea of yellow prevailing over the orange and green!” Mariel Tolentino, Logistics Committee Chairperson said.

We are alarmed at President Arroyo’s declaration of martial law in Maguindanao and other parts of Mindanao ostensibly to enforce law and order in the area in the aftermath of the massacre of 57 innocent civilians by ardent supporters of this Administration.

The declaration of martial law does not make sense to us:

a. The recent government pronouncements have been that everything is under control:

  1. The AFP, through its spokesperson Lt. Col. Romeo Brawner, declared no more than four days ago that there is no need for the declaration of martial law in Maguindanao or elsewhere in the country because the AFP and PNP are on top of the situation.
  2. Acting Defense Secretary Norberto Gonzales declared no more than three days ago that the government’s effort to contain the tension in the province is holding ground.
  3. Ronaldo Puno, DILG secretary, said as late as last night that “no decision had been made” on the declaration of martial law, and suggested that queries be directed to Norberto Gonzales, acting DND secretary.  What has changed since then?
